For trophy northerns my Favs are either extra big body baits like a Grama Lure or real big Perch Bango for speed trolling or large spinner baits for casting the weed beds.

We have the best luck with bucktails here at Big Hook Wilderness Camps in the Opasquia Provincial Park. Black tail with either a orange or copper Colorado blade. Colorado blades work best when trying to fish really thick weed beds. But my absolute favorite lure is a Bomber Long A magnum with a gold body and black back. I always carry about three of those in my tackle box.

I am also keen on the extra big body baits.

I use Grama Lures quite often.

I am so glad I found this web-site, nights are long here in Yellow Knife

Do you ever have luck just using daredevils? If so, what color/size?

Daredevil

When fishing new areas I always throw a Red and White Daredevil first, if I get follows I will put on a Suick or other Jerkbait.

I also like the Redeye, it is always reliable and if there are fish around they can not resist...Jerkbait.

northern bait

My all time favorite northern bait is a perch pattern jake bait.  Nothing puts more fish in the boat than that lure.

For some reason this year, the Johnson Silver Minnow is out fishing all other lures.  Place a white twister trailer behind on this lure,  run it through some thick weeds and you won't be dissapointed.

Remember to put the big ones back!
